Where Can We Find Peace

We so want peace in our world. World War I was the “war to end all wars.” The League of Nations was created to preserve world peace. Yet, World War II was the largest, most destructive, most deadly war in history. The United Nations replaced the League of Nations to try to maintain world peace. The Cold War led to the largest arms build-up in history. With the breakup of the Soviet Union, we thought we would get the “peace dividend” for not having the super-power face-off between the US and the Soviet Union. Yet, wars continue.

Political unrest continues every year. Since 2002, Boko Haram has killed hundreds of thousands of people, including more than 300,000 children. Since 2018, there has been ongoing violence in Haiti, some economic protests, some anti-government protests, some gang related.

There were more than 14,000 murders in the US in 2025. There were more than 200 school shootings and about 70 at colleges and universities. When I was in school, students usually settled differences with a fistfight. And our politics – they are toxic. The other side is not only wrong, but they’re bad.

The prophet Isaiah (Isaiah 9:6) tells us: “For a child has been born for us, a son given to us; authority rests upon his shoulders, and He is named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Christ is the Prince of Peace. First in our hearts, then ultimately in our world when Christ will reign.
